Dec. 18th, 2020 03:40 pmIt had been a long time since Gaius had seen Asuka, and the apocalypse hadn't exactly been kind to her or her world view. Still life in other worlds and dimensions goes on, and she wasn't currently in the hell-scape that her reality had become. He hoped that a casual date with an attractive stranger might be just the thing to get her out of her slump, and who better than him? Okay, so maybe she had more reason to be bitter and jaded than he did, but his life wasn't exactly peaches and roses, and he knew a thing or two about apocalyptic settings himself.
So what better way to forget about your worries and your strife? The bear necessi-? Pizza! If there's one thing that Gaius had grown to love about living in a world that's a nexus between worlds, it was the cuisine. The candy is dandy, and the sweets are a treat, but some of the culinary inventions of Earth certainly blow away what he had back home. It just so happened that this little arcade and pizza place simply called 'fun palace' was a relic of Earth's from some point in time that found its way here, so here is where their date would take place.
"It might look a little silly, but it does live up to its name of being fun." Sometimes a little silliness was needed when all you had to look forward to was the doom and gloom of what your life had waiting for you back home. Maybe if she was lucky she might find a way to stay with him and avoid the bleak timeline she was trapped in, or maybe she felt duty bound to return at some point, it was hard to say. For the time being he was escorting her through the door so that she could see it wasn't exactly a kid's arcade. There were a few teenagers yes, but most of the crowd actually was at the bar, or the roller rink in the far corner. The arcade section of the establishment had a decent chunk of games with a few patrons, but the majority seemed to find interest in other attractions.
For the time being Gaius ignored these and took Asuka to have a seat with him at one of the dinner tables. "I like to come here from time to time when I'm feeling down, so I figured this might be a good place for our date. Besides, who doesn't like pizza?"

Apple pie and soldiers.
Oct. 30th, 2015 12:48 amGallia had hired very few mercenaries during the war, but Gaius just happened to be more capable with a sword than any thief alive. Perhaps it was that, and that the Greil Mercenaries had no rogues in their ranks that had allowed him to sign up with their merry band. It also didn't hurt that he knew Begnion like the back of his hand, and was willing to give them dozens of the secrets they'd need for invading his home nation.
Mercenaries weren't the only ones who were helping the Laguz on their way to Begnion, they'd also gotten the aid of a group of traveling merchants, and some of Ike's old buddies from the previous war who'd been serving with Queen Elincia to settle down the rebellion until just recently. During his down time he'd started to chat up these new members of their growing band, and one of the more shy ones was a young lancer named Nephenee. She and Brom were both a bit inexperienced as far as he was concerned, but he supposed that's what happens when honest country folk were forced into a war-zone. They'd fought before in the mad king's war, but he could tell they still seemed more comfortable holding hoes than axes. Gaius... he was a bit of a jaded veteran to the darker side of life, having lived on the streets of the Begnion capitol as a kid. So war? That was a drop in the bucket of some of the horrors he'd seen humanity could offer.
He shook his head as he made his way to the field where he'd heard Nephenee had been out training. He hadn't really gotten to chat with her as much as he'd have liked last time, so he was hoping to catch her after her training session when she'd be too tired to try to run off on him if she was intimidated by him. This time, he'd also come with an offering... when they last spoke he remembered her saying how sweets were a bit hard to come by, and that got his taste buds itching to try and prepare something.
"Hey Green?" Ah yes, he called her Green not just because she had rather long greenish teal hair, but because she was still a bit naive to the ways of the world in his eyes. "I wonder if you might be able to sample some of this with me?"
Gaius twirled his cape to reveal a golden apple pie, which had an aroma to entice even the least hungry of worn out warriors. It was rare for him to offer sweets to others, usually he was always trying to beg, borrow, or steal sweets whenever he could, but he actually felt a twinge of sympathy for Nephenee. A life without having many sweets? He couldn't think of much worse a fate, and he knew this might be a good opportunity to find out what made this girl tick. "Only some mind you, you have to share with me the pie maker after all, and I can't promise it's as delicious as it smells."

Canon: Fire Emblem Awakening
Age: 26
Canon Point: Epilogue
Background Information:
http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Gaius
Canon specific side note: Most of the canon information for characters from the Fire Emblem series can be found in support conversations, special bits of dialogue which occur when two units spend enough time fighting alongside one another. For the sake of clarity, I usually assume Gaius has gotten all of his support conversations maxed out except for the S class which is what leads to characters getting married.
Personality:
Gaius is like many of your typical rougues and thieves in many respects, he'll steal or do more dishonest lines of work to make ends meet, he doesn't care too much for rules and laws, and he's got very nimble fingers that get him into all kinds of trouble. How Gaius tends to be different from your average lowlife is he actually really does care about others than just himself, and he's got a weakness for sweet things like you wouldn't believe. He'll usually only steal from those he feels can afford it if he can, which is why despite the risks involved, he's often trying to steal from nobility. When you first meet Gaius in Fire Emblem Awakening, he's trying to break into the royal treasury of Ylisse. When he finds out that the group he's with is actually here to assassinate their ruler, he starts to have a crisis of conscience, and with a bit of 'sweet' persuasion he ends up switching sides.
In Robin and Maribelle's support conversations, you find out Gaius has spent time in prison in his more youthful years, and he was granted a 'get out of jail free' card if he helped some rather disreputable nobles. He was asked to break into the royal treasury and say that he was hired by a specific duke that they wanted framed. He told them they could go take a flying leap, preferring to just work off his time in a more honest fashion. Though when he overheard that those nobles planned to kill the dukes daughter since they couldn't get Gaius to work for them, he changed his mind, trying to make them think he was just trying to make them sweeten the deal. He really didn't want to get the girl's father in trouble, but he figured it was better that his name got tarnished than his daughter winding up dead. After that day, Gaius learned more about the nobility than he ever cared to, and he became a bit sadder but wiser in his dealings. The mark on his arm from his prison sentence is a constant reminder of that shame, and as such he almost always keeps it covered and goes out of his way to not have anyone see it.
When you brush the surface of Gaius' personality you get a thick coating of sugar all over your brush, but beneath the sugar coating is a man who's seen a lot more of the world than most people twice his age. He's spent a long time setting up connections with merchants and shadier contacts all over the world, all for one driving goal. Sugar. His sweet tooth is so strong it drives him to rather extreme lengths to try to procure sweet delicacies not easily found. If he could live off of nothing but sweets for the rest of his life he would probably die happy, but in his line of work he has to remember to not take anything to excess or risk slowing down and winding up dead. In his support conversations with Chrom and Robin, you scratch the surface of all the places Gaius has been. Where you really discover some of Gaius' connections is his conversation with Henry in the summer scramble, when he's showing off some of his rarer desserts.
In his conversations with Lissa, Robin, Miriel, and Cherche, you find out that Gaius is a man of many hidden talents as is befitting a rogue. He's been known to sew, do magic tricks, use a forge, make jewelry and miscellaneous knickknacks usually as a way to make ends meet between odd jobs. He's a man that's fairly grounded in the harshness that can come with reality, and has been spending years finding ways to survive however he can. He's a very self-reliant kind of guy because growing up he didn't have anyone to rely on for most of the fundamental things he needed. He didn't grow up in the countryside as a farmer, he was born and raised on the city streets, and he's got more street smarts than anyone in their little army.
When he's talking with Tharja or Cordelia, it's clear that he's also got a lot of self-confidence. He can be rather flirty when it comes to women he finds attractive, even in the face of almost stark disapproval. He knows how to lay on the charm when he wants to because it's a skill that's very useful for staying alive when you're a street urchin. His main motivation for doing things is for the sweeter things in life, usually sugary sweets but also some of the more basic comforts of life. The affection of a beautiful woman, the entertainment of watching street performers juggle flaming hams, a warm fire and a hot meal on a cold night, and something that he only really learned about after joining Chrom and his Shepherds, just having a good friend to share your troubles with.
Slight Headcanon: In the soldier roster for Fire Emblem awakening it's said that Gaius is the one most likely to get nosebleeds in the group. From what I know from Japanese culture and anime, that generally means that he's definitely got a bit of a dirty mind brewing beneath the surface. The evidence supporting this is slightly on the weak side, but I get definite vibes along those lines which is why it's partly just headcanon. We never hear about Gaius parents or his upbringing, but it's fairly safe to assume that he grew up as an orphan on the city streets. It very well may explain why Gaius gets along so well with Libra who runs and orphanage. It may even explain his obsession with sweets, because they were likely much rarer to find for him when he was young and he's making up for lost time. Of course this is all just speculation based off of little tidbits you can read between the lines. I'm willing to drop these bits of headcanon if necessary, but they are so minor that I almost didn't feel they needed mentioning.
(As a loose guideline, we would expect canon characters to have a personality section of around 500 words minimum and OCs to have a minimum of around 800 words. Don't worry too much about hitting exact word counts! We're more concerned with content than length. If you have a lot more to say—go for it. If your character is a minor character and there simply isn't that much to say—we understand. A good rule of thumb when writing your app is to assume the person reading it will be canon blind; provide explanations for canon-specific terms and don't assume that readers will know the full details of what events occurred or who other characters are.
Note that we discourage the use of headcanon, but if you feel you need to include it to help flesh out a character, please make sure that it has a solid basis in canon and clearly indicate it as separate from the purely canon information. We will not accept canon characters whose apps are primarily headcanon.)

Abilities:
Usually I play Gaius as being more your average human than some sort of super human juggernaut of destruction. Most of his abilities are things a normal human from planet earth would be capable of doing, but there are one or two exceptions. Personally, I'd prefer to play him as just an ordinary human being like I normally do, and perhaps let him develop the Carvaka specific powers a bit more.
Here is a list of Gaius' skills and abilities I have put together from all his classes in game if I'm not allowed to pursue the ordinary human path. Otherwise the basic facts are that he's a rogue capable of using swords, picking locks, blending into the shadows by wearing black clothes at night, and using his wits and charms to make it by.
(If a character has magical or otherwise better-than-human abilities, they should be described here. Just listing them out without explanation may not be enough, so please detail what they are, their strengths and limitations, etc. If a wiki exists with good, detailed information, it may be used to supplement your summary.)
▸SAMPLES:
(One sample may be a link to a post/log thread of decent length that's occurred in the last six months from another game, or from a meme/musebox if the setting is the same as what the character will be apped from and the thread provides a good example of characterization — i.e. no AU settings or overly cracky memes. The other sample must be written to take place in Carvaka's setting.
For the Carvaka-specific sample, we're looking for a good example of character voice and how the character will adapt to the setting. We suggest avoiding "where am I?" or "where are my friends?" type samples, as these tend to be generic and often not fully representative of a character's normal behavior. You can still send in these kinds of samples if you wish to, but we advise applicants to consider whether or not they fulfill the requirements that we're looking for.)

Well this is a bit desperate, and I'll admit I never thought I'd sink so low but hey... desperate times call for desperate measures, right? ... So anyways, I bet you're all wondering what kind of sales pitch I'm about to throw at you, and if you're not wondering that, you should. I've made a few odds and ends to sell all of you. Everything from crafted jewelry, to bars of soap, little things to remind you of the finer things of home. What do I want in exchange for these fine things? Well I know what you might be thinking, but what I want... is sugar. That's not slang for sex or anything, I literally want sweets from candies to cupcakes and anything in between.
On that note, you folks need sex, I need sugar, to be completely on the frank and honest side I am prostituting myself for sweets. Women, Men, Taguel, Manakete, Wyvern, I will sleep with anyone and satisfy whatever weird kinks you have but dammit... I... need... SUGAR! Just so we're clear though? I'd kind of prefer to avoid anything that will cost me an arm and a leg if you're into weirder things, so I'll accept on a case to case basis.

Gaius Abilities
Aug. 7th, 2015 07:06 amFire Emblem Awakening Skills
There are many, many skills that specific classes can learn in Awakening. I shall list the ones Gaius can learn and a brief description of each one.
Locktouch: Allows a character to open locked doors or chests.
Movement +1: Simply allows a character to move one extra space further than normal
Lethality: Has a small chance (about 10%) to instantly kill his foe in one strike.
Pass: Allows a character to slip through enemy lines as if they weren't blocking his path.
Lucky Seven: For the first seven turns of each combat, has very increased hit and avoidance.
Acrobat: Allows a character to move across any terrain without penalties. (Practically allows character to walk on water)
HP +5: Pretty straightforward and pointless, allows a character to take extra damage.
Crit +5: Like HP +5, gives a slight boost to the critical damage stat.
Rally Strength: Can activate to give allies around him a boost to strength at the cost of his attack for the turn.
Counter: Whenever this character takes damage from a melee attack and survives, deals just as much damage back.
Sol: Has a good chance (About 50%) of healing the character for half of the damage dealt. (Sort of like vamparism)
Axebreaker: The character gets +50 hit and Avoidance versus axes.
Avoid +10: Makes the character more evasive.
Vantage: When the character is at half HP, always strikes before the enemy on their turn.
Astra: Allows the character to strike 5 times at half damage in the time it takes for one strike.
Swordfaire: Grants the character +5 damage while using any sword.
Resistance +10: Grants the character a much greater resistance to magical damage.
Aggressor: Grants the user +10 Damage on their turn.
Weapons
Gaius is capable of using axes, bows, staves, and his specialty, swords. Only in a secret unlockable class is he capable of using magical tomes, and he is not terribly good at it even then. The trickster class is capable of using healing staves, though it is usually assume Gaius will pursue the assassin class upon classing up.

Dec. 15th, 2014 02:22 pmIt seemed like such a simple thing really. Take his fiance away for a surprise luxury trip to a resort for Christmas, have fun with her away from the hustle and hassle of his and her daily work. Oh how very wrong had he been in it being simple. Oh it wasn't the funding, though that wasn't cheap, and it wasn't that he may have spoiled some of the surprise... but it certainly was a matter of being on call 24/7 and 'transportation' in a manner of speaking. Misato had taken Gaius aside for a little... 'chat'... more like an inquisitorial interrogation, but she explained a bit more thoroughly what they were up against.
Angels is what they called them, though from what Gaius saw of some of their reccords, they were a lot like the fell dragon Grima. Rather than the fire emblem, magic, or falchion the blade of light, they'd managed to develop mechanical monstrosities capable of combating these things. AT-fields were much like the magical protections Grima had, which was why Falchion was one of the few weapons capable of hurting the beast. Basically, Asuka was one of her world's only hopes because there was no telling how many angels there were, and when or where from they might strike.
He'd heard much of this before through a lost text he'd stumbled upon years before meeting Asuka from a different outrealm world. It's how he was made aware of her in the first place, but the tome chronicling the events was badly damaged... and possibly from her future. He was just a boy when he read it, thinking the events in it were purely fiction... mechanized giants? Angels of the apocalypse? An entire mechanized fortress city? All just a fantasy... until the day he actually met her.
He liked to think of that story growing up because of her. A strong young woman, who grew up with a tough childhood just like him, yet had confidence and a flair for proving to the world she was worth being noticed. For a kid who grew up on the streets, she was practically an ideal role model. Little did he know he'd meet his role model younger than he was, because she was the same age she had been in the transcript he'd stumbled upon. There were many wonders in the outrealms... but never in his wildest dreams had he thought he'd really find the world from a storybook and marry the girl of his childhood dreams.
Yet all of that came with a price... what in his life didn't come with some sort of price or another? He'd been working with Nerv as a private agent for weeks after his engagement to Asuka, not simply because he'd do anything for her, but because that was one of Nerv's conditions to accepting his engagement to her without a fight. As a being from another dimension entirely, his very existence, and the knowledge he possessed was being kept very quiet. Magic was not something this world possessed, and from what he could tell from the way he got here, it couldn't function here normally. Indeed, almost nothing from this world could go through his outrealm gate as a result. He could go to her world, and leave thanks to the magic of his world, but because of the magic this world seemed to lack...
So countless tests were done trying to re-create the magical energies necessary to produce an outrealm gate. Gaius brought countless blueprints with different means for them to attempt, fire, electricity, wind, water, they came closer when they started working at the molecular level, using magi to crack some of the fundamental coding of his universe that didn't coincide with their own. Until one day they used a small AT-field, and the gate roared to life. Tests were done with small animals and test probes first, eventually after several more tests followed by a human being accompanied by Gaius.
The higher ups had been hoping to use this for many purposes, on such purpose being escape. Indeed, if the angels did destroy all life, having an escape route would be incredibly beneficial. The problem they seemed to have was the size of the gate made it impossible for anything larger than a horse to fit through. Otherwise the whole thing seemed to simply fizzle. Really, Gaius date he'd planned for Asuka was the furthest thing from most of their minds, but it was one of the conditions he made in helping them. In the end he had to make a molehill into a mountain, move the mountain, and shrink it back down to a molehill again, but he finally got the desired results. Nerv would let him take Asuka to his hotspring resort, comfortable in the knowledge she could be reached in an emergency.
"It's certainly been a long time getting here but... hopefully it will all have been worth it." He chuckled wryly to himself as he once more found himself ringing Asuka's door, greatly anticipating the chance to see his love smiling just for him.

Dinner Date for Two
Nov. 3rd, 2014 08:34 pmGaius didn't usually go out of his way to try to impress people... actually he probably had never gone out of his way to impress anyone because he didn't think it was worth the effort. That wasn't to say he was lazy, though he was fairly lazy, no it was just that there were very few people he actually cared enough about. Oh he liked a lot of the people in his life plenty well enough... but Asuka... Asuka was quite different. What he saw was not merely a girl who stood up for herself, but one who was practically craving a love that was missing in her life. More than anything he wanted to be that love in her life.
So he was cleaned up, shaved, well dressed, and he even had a bouquet of long stemmed roses squirreled away in his cape to surprise her with. He made reservations at a fancy restaurant, using a few of the connections he had from ordering their pastries which were some of the finest in the cosmos. Yes, when it came to feeding his sugar addiction he made connections that spread across worlds to find the sweetest and tastiest confections known to mankind. Tonight though was more about dinner than desert... though he was certainly hoping that Asuka would be willing to have desert...Or be desert...
He cleared his mind of the dirty thoughts,Like Asuka covered in whipped cream and begging him to have a tas- no, no, he had to stop! and knocked on her door. He was still wearing what he normally did, but it was much cleaner, fresher, and he even cleaned out all the old syrup, sugar, and jelly stains from it. He'd told her she could wear just about anything she liked since that's exactly what he was doing, but he did drop mention of the fact that he would take her to a fancy place because he thought she deserved to be spoiled a bit more. So he was curious as to how she might look when she greeted him at the door, mentally preparing himself for the absolute worst, but hoping to see that gorgeous smile on her face again.
What was the worst case scenario? Asuka looking like she just came out of a blast zone with her hair lit on fire, her clothes covered in mud, her having a hangover from hell that made her look like a zombie that wanted to claw his brains out, and her carrying around the severed head of Shinji. Yes, he shuddered at the very idea of it, but even if things were at their worst, he'd at least try to get her cleaned up, bury the body, hide the evidence, have her skip town, and give her a raincheck on that date. Wow... if he was willing to go that far, he really was smitten wasn't he? He needed to get out of his head and stop being so damn nervous about this date... he had to be more cool and collected or else she'd eat him for breakfast. He was hoping to wait for the second date for that. Yup here he was, ex-con chuckling over a joke inside his own damn head and waiting for the girl of his dreams to answer the door on their first date.
