Dinner Date for Two
Gaius didn't usually go out of his way to try to impress people... actually he probably had never gone out of his way to impress anyone because he didn't think it was worth the effort. That wasn't to say he was lazy, though he was fairly lazy, no it was just that there were very few people he actually cared enough about. Oh he liked a lot of the people in his life plenty well enough... but Asuka... Asuka was quite different. What he saw was not merely a girl who stood up for herself, but one who was practically craving a love that was missing in her life. More than anything he wanted to be that love in her life.
So he was cleaned up, shaved, well dressed, and he even had a bouquet of long stemmed roses squirreled away in his cape to surprise her with. He made reservations at a fancy restaurant, using a few of the connections he had from ordering their pastries which were some of the finest in the cosmos. Yes, when it came to feeding his sugar addiction he made connections that spread across worlds to find the sweetest and tastiest confections known to mankind. Tonight though was more about dinner than desert... though he was certainly hoping that Asuka would be willing to have desert...Or be desert...
He cleared his mind of the dirty thoughts,Like Asuka covered in whipped cream and begging him to have a tas- no, no, he had to stop! and knocked on her door. He was still wearing what he normally did, but it was much cleaner, fresher, and he even cleaned out all the old syrup, sugar, and jelly stains from it. He'd told her she could wear just about anything she liked since that's exactly what he was doing, but he did drop mention of the fact that he would take her to a fancy place because he thought she deserved to be spoiled a bit more. So he was curious as to how she might look when she greeted him at the door, mentally preparing himself for the absolute worst, but hoping to see that gorgeous smile on her face again.
What was the worst case scenario? Asuka looking like she just came out of a blast zone with her hair lit on fire, her clothes covered in mud, her having a hangover from hell that made her look like a zombie that wanted to claw his brains out, and her carrying around the severed head of Shinji. Yes, he shuddered at the very idea of it, but even if things were at their worst, he'd at least try to get her cleaned up, bury the body, hide the evidence, have her skip town, and give her a raincheck on that date. Wow... if he was willing to go that far, he really was smitten wasn't he? He needed to get out of his head and stop being so damn nervous about this date... he had to be more cool and collected or else she'd eat him for breakfast. He was hoping to wait for the second date for that. Yup here he was, ex-con chuckling over a joke inside his own damn head and waiting for the girl of his dreams to answer the door on their first date.

You know... when you say things like that, you kind of make me want to do anything.
[He clears his throat, setting his wine glass down on one of the little side trays.]
They'll definitely be time for that later, but I promised you dinner first did I not? As much as I love to break the rules, as fired up as you make me with every single breath you take... Let me at least try to resist the temptation of doing with you all the things my heart has desired.
[Gaius caressed her cheek, looking into her eyes to calm himself once more, so that he could try to regain his composure. While he may have confidence, restraint was a quality harder for him to come by, and Asuka was becoming an expert tease.]
no subject
Hehe.. Alright. So how far is this place anyways?
[ Yup. She's still got it. ]
no subject
We should be pretty close, probably only another ten minutes or so. In the meantime, perhaps you could tell me a little bit about your life before the Eva program? I'll admit there's still a lot about you I wish I knew, and I'm sure you've got a few questions of your own.
...
Or if you'd prefer not to talk about your past, I could always share with you tales of the turnip market of Ylisse.
[Was that his way of blackmailing her? Or was he really thinking of sharing turnip stories with her?]
no subject
My life before Eva..? Well. I was born in Germany, and I grew up there with my mother. My father was always busy with work, though. So he wasn't around much. He was Japanese, so at home I grew up speaking a mix of German and Japanese. And then--
[ Theres a pause. ]
And then I got asked to Pilot Eva. I think I was 7 or 8. ]
no subject
[The ones who went through time to save their sorry butts. He knew there had to be more to the story, but... he definitely didn't want to press her right now.]
Lets see... I never knew my parents myself, I grew up on the streets for the most part, and had to work my way up. I don't really have many regrets about it, it's not like I can imagine my life going very differently, but my history is a little dark and colorful. But hey, I figure I ought to keep the score even. I say, we're making up for lost time in our past right here and now wouldn't you say?
no subject
[ Because really he's the only one she'd spend it with at this point. She picks her wine up again and takes a few sips. ]
Parents are overrated in my opinion.
no subject
[Because that could make their love life... interesting to say the least.]
Or is it just parents that are overrated rather than kids?
no subject
I don't think I'd ever have the time to be a parent. I don't think I'd be a very good parent, either.
[ Considering that all the 'parent-type people' in her life are awful role models.
or dead.]Plus if something ever happened to me, I wouldn't wanna let that kid down.
..So maybe I'll just spend my whole life enjoying a crazy sex life. Yeah that sounds fine.
[ She looks like she's in deep thought as she sips her wine. ]
no subject
I... I see... that could be... fun?
[He coughed placing his glass of wine down as the driver came around open the door for them.]
It seems we have finally arrived... shall we my dear?
[He offered Asuka his arm to escort her out of their limo and into the restaurant for which he'd made reservations for them.]
no subject
Taking his arm, she steps out of the limo with him and straightens out her dress as she stands. This place was fancy. She could tell just by the outside, and by the men and women with linked arms walking in, dressed like royalty.
And then she felt kind of odd about her choice of dress. But that didn't matter. Because she had a great guy at her side and a perfect dinner to look forward to. ]
Yes, lets.
no subject
Now, I'm not sure if you've ever been to a place like this before, but if you have any trouble with the menu, you can feel free to ask, or tell me what things you like, and I can make some suggestions for you.
[They went in to the reception area which could have almost passed off as a ballroom if it were just a bit bigger, what with the fancy masonry and gleaming chandelier hanging above them.]
Party for two, Gaius and Asuka Langley.
[With a silent bow and a 'right this way monsieur' they were led to a private table upstairs overlooking the reception area, and near a window that overlooked a large fountain. It was windy outside, but the sky was perfectly clear so the stars and moon shone brightly in the night sky. The menus were indeed in french, and strangely enough, there were no prices whatsoever on the menu. Gaius was watching her with his chin in his hand, seeing if she would indeed ask him for her help with ordering, though she might surprise him by being trilingual.]
no subject
[ She admired their surroundings for a moment as they sat down. The girl who almost never shut up was now at a loss for words. After staring out the window, taking in the view, she looked down at the menu.
She in fact, was unable to read it. Although little bits and pieces of words stuck out to her, she wasn't able to really read any of it. Looking a little embarrassed, she rested her cheek against her hand. ]
I um.. I can't read this.. Can you help me?
[ Don't tell anyone she asked for help. It wouldn't be very cool. ]
no subject
[After his lengthy little lecture, he moved on to take a quick examination of the menu.]
The Le plat du jour which is the special of the day is the Pot-au-feu, which is effectively a beef stew that is the staple of french cuisine. My personal favorite is likely duck a l'orange as you may have heard of, which is an duck dish in an orange glaze. Now if you have any particular foods you're fond of, feel free to let me know and I'll browse through the menu for you to see if there's anything similar for you.
[Trust him Asuka, with the research he had to do? He could not at all fault her for not being able to read it.]
no subject
[ And she's already forgotten how to say most of that, but damn if she won't try. ]
Um.. I'll try.. The duck.. a l-l.. um.. The one you're getting.
[ Whoops she's embarrassed. ]
If thats okay with you.
no subject
[He chuckled as he snapped his fingers for the waiter, was quick to order their meal, speaking a few words in the best french he could manage, and a private wink to the waiter who in fact knew him well enough to know what the hell he was talking about.]
Trust me there's nothing to feel embarrassed about, because the first seven times I came here? I practically got thrown out on my rump for trying to order their finest pastries, and ending up with a fancy imported wine instead. Pretty worth it once you've had a taste of the food though.
no subject
[
She's very embarrassed, she's lying.]So you've been here before..? You're lucky.
[ Asuka's eyes are practically glowing when she looks around. Ah, what a beautiful place to be. ]
no subject
[Yup, he wasn't even ashamed of acting like a hobo on his own time. The point was he could be a gentleman for her sake.]
Though I have gotten to see this place's dining areas during closing hours a few times. So yes, it's true that I have be here before, but it's also true that this is in effect my first time.
no subject
Today is a day of firsts then. First ride in a limo for me, first time eating at this fancy place for the both of us.
[
More firsts coming soon.]This is.. the nicest thing anyones done for me, I think.
[ Her gaze turns towards the window, soaking in the view again. He doesn't know that much German right? She mumbles to herself with a small smile. ]
ich liebe dich..
no subject
[He wasn't sure if was thrilled or a little sad about that. She deserved to be treated like a princess, because as he'd said before she was the most wonderful girl he'd ever known. He wanted her life to be filled with nothing but joy, and it seemed as if her life had been filled with nothing but idiots, corrupt officials, and worse. He supposed it was true that hardships built character, because he'd never known someone quite like her before. He didn't want to dampen the mood by pitying her or anything though, so he just smiled resting his chin in his hand.]
I guess that means that I'll have a tricky time topping our first date then.
[There she goes whispering in German again... if only he understood that language a bit more. Well... two could play that game.]
Je te aime plus que la vie elle-même... ma belle Fraulien.
[She might be able to recognize a few of those words from when he was ordering, but he doubted she could understand almost all of it save for his nickname for her.]
no subject
[ Nope. No clue what he was saying. But she decided to continue to say sweet things to him that he wouldn't understand. Because.. She thinks thats what he did with french..? She'd like to assume so. ]
Do you want to know what that means, Lieben?
no subject
[He squints for a second trying to wrap his brain around the words and what the sound like.]
If I were to try to butcher your language to translate it into English, it be something like you're itchy and wish you could ditch me, but you're stuck with me which is super.
[He was trying to go for a joke there, so he hope he didn't offend her and have it majorly backfire or anything.]
Though... if I were to put in what I was hoping you might be saying to me? I'd say you were telling me that your positively head over heels for me.
[He leans back in his chair, letting it tip back and forth he held onto the table to keep it from falling over or anything.]
I could tell you what I said of course.
no subject
Your second guess is correct.
[ She reaches her foot out towards his , and she gets it behind his chair leg thats in the air, ready to catch him if he tips over. They wouldn't want that. ]
Ah yeah.. What'd you say? Or do I have to guess too?
no subject
[Aaand seeing as how his humor failed, he's going to stick with what seemed to be working better for him, pure romantic sincerity and charm. So he sat himself back in the chair and leaned forward to look her eye to eye so she could see he meant every word.]
I said, I love you more than life my beautiful Fraulein.
no subject
Ah. There it was. Those words that made her face feel like it was on fire. 'Love'. That word hadn't been said to her yet. And now that it was out there well.. Butterflies flooded her little loudmouthed heart. ]
I- I love you too, sweetest.
[ That seemed to be a nickname that had stuck. Whether she was saying it in German or English. Any language, he was sweetest. You know, because it worked with his addiction to sweets, and his personality. ]
no subject
[He wanted to hear her say those words before he leaped in headfirst. Perhaps it was true what they said that love could blossom in a mere instant, but could endure for an entire lifetime. Before she could ask, and before he could go into further detail, their food finally arrived. The duck seared to perfection smelled sweet and tangy but also rich and moist, and there were lightly seasoned vegetables on the side at Gaius' request. Incredibly fresh baguettes were in a basket, and the waiter poured them each a cup of crystal clear water.]
It smells even better than I remembered. Now if you were with royalty, or on a double date, I might try to remember which fork and which knife was used in which specific way. However...
[He chuckled as he twirled the knife through his fingers with more dexterity than most master pianists could hope for.]
I think we'll be fine eating it any way we please, hmm?
